The 10 Pillars of Primo Health: Introduction
Welcome to 2013! It's a new year and I'm motivated in my directives and encouraged about the work that I do. Click to read an email I sent out recently called You Are What You Eat In 2013.
To start off this new year I will be working on a new series called The Pillars of Primo Health. By pillars I mean foundational supporting parts that are key to achieving optimal health (Primo Health). I've adapted some of these from my studies and from the work of other colleagues. But this final list is my own. I've concluded that there are 10 Pillars of Primo Health.
THE PILLARS OF PRIMO HEALTH
- Eat Real
- Eat Nourishing
- Eat Clean
- Supplement Wisely
- Repair Your Leaky Gut
- Slow Down
- Move Your Body
- Snooze or Lose
- Live and Love
- Meditate and Pray
I will cover a couple of these pillars a week over the next month or so. As I do, the titles above will link to each of these articles individually.
I've spent the good part of six years studying holistic health and clinical nutrition. And I know from my own experience how complicated and confusing health information can be. Because of this I wanted to produce a list of specific actions each person could take that would result in good health for everyone. I will not get into the nuances of particular diet approaches (i.e., vegetarian, vegan, Paleo, etc.). But I will teach you principles in nutrition and lifestyle choices that have proven to result in greater health, wellness and vitality.
In Dan Buettner's book, "The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from people who lived the longest" we learn about modern day cultures where the people tend to live well into their hundreds; Centenarians. Buettner identifies these hot spots on our planet and looks for clues as to what can be contributing to their longevity and vitality. The result is a list of characteristics that are common to all of these Blue Zones.
While I think it is difficult to come up with a perfect prescription for health and longevity, I do believe there is a common innate wisdom that was inscribed in our bones as to how we humans are meant to live. And this is what I intend to explore with you in The Pillars of Primo Health.
I hope you find wisdom and attain some new knowledge from my work. And as always I welcome your comments, suggestions and questions if done tactfully and respectfully. Let's all take on 2013 as the year of Primo Health!
